Healthy Relationships

The lives of persons living with HIV/AIDS can be stressful. Not only is there the emotional and physical aspects of living with the disease, but HIV/AIDS is often socially stigmatizing. This can make disclosing HIV status to family, friends and sex partners especially stressful. Healthy Relationships is an interactive program for small groups (5-12) of men or women living with HIV/AIDS. At each meeting group participants will work with two facilitators and other group participants to talk about different issues people living with HIV/AIDS face. HIV Testing

BEAT AIDS offers free HIV counseling, testing and referrals.  We offer a 20-minute oral-swab test for HIV only, as well as venipuncture (blood drawn with a needle) testing for HIV, Syphilis, and Hepatitis C.  Through the generous support of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the Texas Department of State Health Services, all testing at BEAT AIDS is free and confidential.  Testing is available on a walk-in basis Monday through Friday from 8:30 AM to 5 PM, and by appointment any time.  To schedule an appointment, call 210-212-2266 or email John Barbo or Dela Jamerson.

Many Men, Many Voices (3MV)

3MV is a seven-session, group-level HIV and STD prevention intervention that we offer for men having sex with men or gay men of color ( African American and Latino). The intervention addresses factors that influence the behavior of men having sex with men or gay men of color ( African American and Latino , including cultural, social, and religious norms; interactions between HIV and other sexually transmitted diseases; sexual relationship dynamics; and the social and psychological influences that racism and homophobia have on HIV risk behaviors. SISTA / HERMANA’S

This group-level, gender- and culturally- relevant intervention, is designed to increase condom use with African America or Latina women. Five peer-led group sessions are conducted that focus on ethnic and gender pride, HIV knowledge, and skills training around sexual risk reduction behaviors and decision making. The intervention is based on Social Learning theory as well as the theory of Gender and Power. The SISTA/HERMANA’S project specifically targets sexually active African-American/Latina women.
