JOSE CONTRERAS
Prevention Director
Jose Contreras, HIV Prevention Director, has been motivated to fight in ending HIV since late 2013 when his partner disclosed to him that he was living with HIV. Since the age of 18 years old, Jose has been working for the local AIDS service organization called BEAT AIDS. Jose has provided education, HIV testing and co-facilitated several evidence-based interventions such as Many Men, Many Voices and Healthy Relationships. Over the years Mr. Contreras has accomplished and gained may titles such as a Prevention Supervisor, Ambassador of Greater than AIDS. Through his experience, Mr. Contreras has participated in presenting at the American Public Health Association, the local Syphilis Taskforce, at the CDC Jurisdictional Meeting and the Office of Minority Health grantee meeting. Jose is a candidate for an Associate’s Degree from San Antonio College Fall 2021. The following quote has also stood out to Jose when people talk about stigma -“The ONLY epidemic HIV has is the lack of resources and education that leads to stigma” – Youth.
